Power Ballads, Bottomless Brunch
and a Very Queer November at The Railway
Clapham’s favourite corner of the queer social calendar
is keeping everyone busy this November, with speed friending,
comedy, sapphic socials and a bottomless brunch dedicated
to the greatest power ballads ever recorded.
There’ll be Prosecco, espresso martinis, Aperol Spritz, mojitos and beer
among the drinks options, with tickets starting at £59.40. Gather your favourite
people, warm up those vocal cords and prepare to spend the afternoon singing
songs that absolutely demand a dramatic key change.
Away from the brunch, November’s looking particularly busy at this
Clapham favourite, which has quietly become a brilliant little hub for the local
LGBTQ+ community.
Lesbian Island gets things started with a Halloween Quiz on Sunday 1
November, while the Lonely Girls Club hosts speed-friending evenings for
over-35s on Tuesday 3 November and under-35s on Tuesday 10 November. A
welcome alternative to yet another evening of scrolling through dating apps.
Queer Offline Social lands on Sunday 8 November, offering another
opportunity to meet people away from screens, while the Queer Play Reading
Club gathers on Tuesday 17 November.
On Tuesday 24 November, Reading Is Gay welcomes author Phil Melanson
for a special meet-the-author evening. Then, on Sunday 29 November, South
West Sapphics takes over for Games Night, rounding off a month that’s
particularly strong on queer community events.
The regular weekly line-up is worth knowing about, too. Comedy Bandits
brings its four-time award-winning stand-up show to the pub every Monday and
Wednesday from 7pm, while Tuesday quiz nights come with free entry and any
burger and fries for £11.
Thursdays belong to GetGayns South West, with a sociable 5k or 7k run
followed by drinks. And if your weekend recovery plan involves gravy rather than
another cocktail, Sunday roasts include beef, chicken and vegetarian nut roast
options, served until they’re gone.
